# Re-engagement: How Mav.next Follows Up With Quiet Leads

> Learn how Mav.next agents re-engage contacts who go quiet — the follow-up cadence, attempt limits, when a conversation goes dormant, and how it reactivates.

Leads often don't reply on the first message. Mav.next agents automatically follow up with contacts who go quiet, so no lead slips through the cracks — without ever becoming a nuisance.

## How it works

When a contact stops responding, the agent waits, then sends a short, low-pressure nudge that picks up where the conversation left off. It keeps doing this on a schedule until the contact replies, the attempt limit is reached, or they opt out.

Every nudge respects your compliance rules first:

* It never messages an opted-out contact.
* It only sends within your texting/calling hours.
* It stops once the follow-up limit is reached.

## Setting the cadence

The re-engagement cadence is plain-language guidance you can edit on the agent (see [Configuring an agent](/mav-next/configuring-an-agent)). The field comes pre-filled with a proven default schedule; adjust it to make follow-ups more or less persistent for your audience.

<Tip>
  The cadence controls *timing only*. The agent's core conversation rules and compliance limits always take priority over anything in the cadence text.

## Dormant conversations

Once the follow-up limit is reached without a reply, the conversation goes **dormant** — a paused, non-final state. This is kept distinct from a closed outcome so your reporting can tell the difference between “went quiet” and “finished.”

<Note>
  If a dormant contact texts back later, the conversation reactivates right where it left off and the follow-up budget resets — the agent picks the thread back up with full memory of the earlier exchange.
